Discover North Wales’ Best Nature Trails

There’s something quite magical about exploring the world on foot, especially in a place like North Wales. When you own a lodge at Bryn Morfydd Lodge Park, some of the country’s most picturesque walking routes are right on your doorstep. Whether you're planning a solo adventure, a dog-friendly outing, or a family hike, the Vale of Clwyd and its surrounding areas offer walks for all ages and abilities. We’ve handpicked some of the best local routes - all under an hour’s drive away - to help you experience the natural beauty of North Wales one step at a time.

Lady Bagot’s Drive

Tucked away just a short 10-minute drive from the Lodge, this peaceful, riverside walk follows the River Clywedog through a quiet valley. Ideal for dog walkers and nature lovers, it's mostly flat and accessible - perfect for a relaxed afternoon stroll, especially in spring or autumn when the colours are most vibrant.

Denbigh Castle Circular

History and scenery come together on this peaceful route around Denbigh Castle. Just a 15-minute drive away, with panoramic views over the Clwydian Range and plenty of open space for kids (and dogs) to roam, this is a great way to stretch your legs and dive into Welsh heritage. The full loop is under 3 miles, which is just enough to work up an appetite for a post-walk pub meal!

Moel Famau

The iconic hilltop of Moel Famau, crowned with the remains of the Jubilee Tower, is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the area - and only a 25-minute drive away! There are various routes you can take that differ in length and difficulty, but all reward you with breathtaking views across the Vale of Clwyd - and even as far as Snowdonia on clear days!

Loggerheads Country Park

Loggerheads Country Park is only a 30-minute drive away from Bryn Morfyyd Lodge Park, making it a firm favourite for families and walkers of all abilities. Located in the heart of the Clwydian Range, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Loggerheads offers several well-maintained trails alongside the River Alyn, as well as a cosy café and visitor centre. The limestone cliffs, woodlands and riverside paths make for a truly scenic day out.

Llyn Brenig (Lake Brenig)

Set in the heart of the Denbigh Moors, Lake Brenig offers a peaceful escape with walking trails that weave through forests and hug the water’s edge. Whether you’re after a gentle stroll or something more challenging, you’ll find a route to suit your pace. You’ll find routes as long as 23k or as short as 4k. Whatever route you pick, the views across the reservoir are simply spectacular. Pop into the visitor centre to pick up walking maps and explore the full range of trails. There’s even a café with views over the lake, which is perfect for a post-walk treat!

The Llangollen Canal

Winding past serene waters, canal boats and charming stone bridges, the Llangollen Canal Walk is a beautiful flat route that suits all paces. Don’t miss the iconic Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can walk (or cruise) high above the River Dee. It takes about 40 minutes to drive from Bryn Morfyyd Lodge Park to Llangollen, so this is perfect for a full day out.
